This little gem of a book conjures a wide range of emotions as you walk through the life of Harlem elder Walter Smith. Smith relates the joys and sorrows of his life. Most notably Walter relates how the now celebrity " American Ganster" ravaged the Harlem landscape. Walter shows us by simply describing the impact on his childhood buddies.
Written in plain, accessible language, this book is probably most appropriate for young adults as both a source of sage wisdom and a lesson in history.
Awesome Story

Tell Our Story is a beautifully written book that is important for the youth of America. The story shows the gangster life as something that is not to be lifted up and celebrated about. The story shows how hard work and education can get anybody out of any situation. I would recommend this book to anyone. I hope that there is a sequel.

Wow' I could not put the book down until I had read it from cover to cover. I love reading books that make you feel that you are right there with all the characters. And reading the ending was incredible... especially the way I envisioned it in my mind 'camera angles, transition effects, and fading to black'. I'm waiting with tip-toed anticipation for the next book! Great Job!
What a good read!!

This story draws you in quickly and keeps your attention throughout. I went through the whole range of emotions 'happy, mad, and sad'. This book was over much too soon and left me wanting to know more.
Congratulations on your wonderful work in "TELL OUR STORY"

I was riveted from beginning to end. I love your easy style of writing in which you tell of the most profound experiences in the least shocking manner. This style allowed me to focus on the character rather than their activities. I like the respect you entended to your characters. You never put them down even though you didn't embrace their life style. You should applaud yourself for being so blessed to do so. I must tell you though it all sounds very exciting and lots of fun. I was very interested in the family and friend relationships that you described. It appears to me that the family reigns supreme no matter when or where. The mutual love that you share with your parents is significant. How wonderful it is that you are able to still enjoy them in a very special way even today. You and Bettye are an ideal couple. It goes with out saying that you two have a relationship that is second to none. Once again, the love and respect you have for each other is very visible. Your daughter and grand children have super role models which I am sure will guide and direct them along the way.

I really had a great time attending the event last night. I feel you touched the lives of a few people there, for instance, the brother who was debating about returning to school. By him reading your story, it gave him that motivation he needed. These book discussions are so informative that it educate young people about dealing with struggles and having the faith to succeed in life. I also learned something last night as well. Like you said you will always keep learning. I am very happy for you and I know you will touch many other lives in the future. By you writing this book, you are giving something back to the community and showing young people there is always hope if you can survive long enough and make the right decisions. I am ready to go on a book tour with you across the country.
